  • Exploring academic partnership in the area of alternate or renewable energy systems
  • Planning activities related to academic partnership, e.g. for certificate and degree programs
  • Evaluating options for designing and conducting workforce training programs in the area of renewable energy systems, including design and set-up of stationary and portable training centers for solar PV technologies

INCREASE is a consortium of Minority-Serving Institutions that forms collaborations with other universities and with national laboratories, principally Brookhaven National Laboratory to promote research at MSIs,especially as regards the utilization of national user facilities. 

This includes BNL's National Synchrotron Light Source and those in BNL's Center for Functional Nanomaterials. INCREASE seeks to facilitate research training for its undergraduate and graduate students, especially those from historically underrepresented groups in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) professions, namely, African Americans, Latino Americans, Native Americans, and women.

The mission of the partnership with ECPA is to contribute to the achievement of specific regional and national energy and climate change goals that contribute to advancing energy sustainability and low carbon economic growth through the promotion of seven fundamental pillars: Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy; Cleaner and More Efficient Use of Fossil Fuels; Energy Infrastructure; Energy Poverty; Sustainable Forests and Land Use and Adaptation.

Illinois Institute of Technology and the University of the Virgin Islands hereby agree to encourage academic cooperation through research and study in furtherance of the advancement of learning as stated below:

  • To encourage visits by faculty from one university to the other for the purpose of engaging in research 
  • To facilitate the admission of qualified students from one university to the other for the purpose of enrolling in undergraduate and graduate programs, and in the case of advanced graduate students, participating in research;
  • To foster the exchange of academic publications and scholarly information; and
  • To promote other academic activities which enhance the above mentioned goals.

University of the West Indies logoThrough this collaboration the institutions will foster the exchange of research faculty and advanced graduate and undergraduate students engaged in scientific and scholarly research in areas of mutual interest through the exchange of personnel for short periods of time; hosting of faculty sabbaticals where feasible; collaboration for equipment time and training; and collaboration on research methodologies and other areas of focus of the institution.

U.S. Virgin Islands Energy Office

The Virgin Island Energy Office (VIEO) is leading the Territory’s government energy efficiency initiative and has formed a partnership with the Caribbean Green Technology Center  on areas pertaining to renewable energy policy, energy efficiency, outreach and education programs.
